John Barna Sr., Jermyn, died Friday at Regional Hospital, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Prichard Barna, and later his second wife, Dorothy Bossick Barna.

Born in Clifford, son of the late Andrew and Magdalina Hopy Barna, he was a truck driver for the Pacific Intermountain Express. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Wayne, N.J., and VFW Peckville Post 6082. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 2768 Padre Pio Assembly.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Starke and husband, Robert, Clarksburg, N.J.; two sons, John and wife, Valerie, Wexford; and Michael and partner, David Mungenast, Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters, Mary Borich, Harrison, N.Y.; Ina Nemitz, Wayne, N.J.; Olga Link, Rochelle Park, N.J.; a brother, Stephen, Jermyn; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn. Mass will be at 9:30 at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Jermyn, celebrated by Monsignor Dale Rupert. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

A viewing is scheduled for Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the building fund of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish.
