John Joseph Lita, 84, of Scranton, died Wednesday at GCMC, due to complications from an emergency surgery. He was surrounded by his girls at the time of his passing. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, the former Janice Penrose of Scranton.
The Guest Book is expired.
Also surviving are his daughter-in-law, Kathy; two granddaughters, Debra, his "sweetie pie," and Jennifer, his "angel," and Jennifer's partner, Ryan McNichols, and their two sons; and his great-grandsons, Gavin, 4, and Colin, 1.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; his brother, George; and his only child, son, Brian.
John enjoyed the simpler things in life. He played the lottery twice a week. He enjoyed his morning coffee while reading the paper, watching football, taking his great-grandsons to the local park and, most of all, spoiling his granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the entire intensive care unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center for taking such great care of him the past 43 days. An extra special thank you goes out to his surgeon, Dr. Smeraldi. Words cannot express our gratitude to you. Thank you for your constant care and compassion toward our Poppy.
The funeral will be held Monday at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, at 9 a.m. Mass will be held at 9:30 at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William St., Scranton. Burial, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends and family of John may call on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
