John Rowinski Obituary

John R Rowin-ski, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died peacefully Monday at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances "Nancy" Mozeleski Rowinski.

Born Oct. 20, 1931, in Scranton, son of the late Michael and Victoria Zaleski Rowinski, he was educated in the Scranton School District. He was an Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War with the 19th Bomb Wing, 25th Air Division, Northeast Air Defense Command.

Before retirement, he was employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot and the University of Scranton library. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, Major Poch American Legion Post, Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the YMS of R Bowling League. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Barlow and husband, Jim, Moscow; and Judith Skoda and husband, Joseph, Camp Hill; four grandchildren, Nicole Myers and husband, Chris, Reading; Daniel Skoda, USAF; Michael Skoda, USAF; and Richard Skoda, Camp Hill; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Chester, Sylvester, Michael and Henry; and two sisters, Lillian Straz and Valerie Toman.

Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, 531 E. Locust St., Scranton. Interment, St. Stanislaus Polish National Cemetery, Kane Street, Scranton.

Friends may call today, 3 to 7 p.m., and Thursday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Sznyter Funeral Home, 1101 Prospect Ave., Scranton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Youth Center or the St. Stanislaus Day School.

Heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family. John was a wonderful person and my husband, John Hunter, enjoyed working with him at the University of Scranton. Both of our husbands have gone to their rest and we have our wonderful memories to help us carry on.
