Joseph F. "Papa" Muracco, 85, of Dunmore, passed peacefully with family by his side at his home, where he resided with his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Pasqualichio.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Frank "Beansie" and Anna Morano Muracco. He was a member SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. He honorably served in the Navy and Air Force, and was a Korean War veteran, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married the love of his life in 1956, and worked as an engineer for Singer Link Aviation, from which he retired in 1990. Even though he truly never retired, because he kept busy doing everything for his family and friends until he was no longer able. He was his family's heart.

He was the most, gentle, kind, loving man we all had ever known. He was always in good spirits, telling jokes and boasting about how lucky he was to have such a wonderful family. In all actuality, we were the lucky ones for being blessed with the best dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend we could ever ask for. He meant so much to so many people and can never be replaced.

We would like to thank Dr. Jack Prior, Dr. James McKenna and the staff at Davida and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care, compassion and kindness.

Also surviving are children, Francis Ann Kumar and her husband, Dr. Sanjay; Gigi Muracco Hessmiller and her husband, William "Billy Baxter"; and Gary Muracco and his wife, Linda; a daughter in law, Traci Hoppel Muracco; grandchildren, Angela D'Angelo and her husband, Mark; Sara Zavislak and husband, Matthew; Becky and Brandon Kumar, Matthew and Michael Muracco, Vanessa and Joey Muracco and Billy, Jeffery and Nicole Hessmiller; great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Chiara Zavislak and Madden and Preston D'Angelo; sisters, Concetta Cruiser and Dolly Meckwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Muracco.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, in Dunmore. Interment will take place in the Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
