Joseph "Butch" Ruddy of Miller Place, Long Island, N.Y., died Monday at Good Shepherd Hospice Unit, Port Jefferson, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Barolta.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Albert and Helen Loftus Ruddy, he was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and served in the Army. He owned and operated Parkside Pool Co. for 30 years in Miller Place. He was an active member of St. Louis DeMontfort Church and volunteered with the youth groups.
Also surviving are a daughter, Megan Ruddy, the joy of his life; his brother, Thomas Ruddy; and sisters, Mary Ruggiero and Barbara Solomon, all of Carbondale.
Butch was a wonderful husband, father, loving brother and special uncle to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be greatly missed by everyone, especially his dog and best friend, Ramón.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Al, Bill, Pat, Gene and Bob Ruddy; and two sisters, Helen Nakonechni and Peggy Tancredo.
A Mass will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. in St. Louis DeMontfort Church, Sound Beach, N.Y.
A Mass will also be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, by the Rev. John C. O'Bell. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
