Kathleen E. "Kathy" Smith, 56, a lifelong West Scranton resident, died Sunday night at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville . Her husband is John J. Smith, and the couple celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Oct. 11.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Dorothy Jones Casey, and step-daughter of Naomi Cresco. Kathy was a 1975 graduate of West Scranton High School where she was a flag twirler and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Scranton, and a former president of the Lincoln-Jackson PTA. In her working career she was employed by the former Globe Store, and was a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Convenient Plumbing and Hardware, Dickson City, after which she was a stay-at-home mom for her only daughter.

Kathy was a loving wife who married her high school sweetheart, a cherished mother and dear sister and aunt who enjoyed helping others, being the center of her extended family, keeping everyone together and happy, and will be cherished in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.

She is also survived by her only daughter, Megan E. Smith, Scranton; one brother, Dennis F. Casey and wife, Karen, Scranton; one nephew, Chad M. Casey, Scranton; and one great-nephew, Connor M. Casey.

She was also preceded in death by brother, John P. Casey Jr.; and sister-in-law, Nancy Casey.

Her funeral will be on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home, 254-268 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.
