Kristy Ryczak, 38, of Mayfield, died Saturday after an accidental fall.

Born on Feb. 28, 1979, on a spectacularly mild late winter day, she was the daughter of Ron and Christine Bilski Ryczak. She graduated from Bloomsburg University with a BA degree in psychology in 2001 and completed her MS degree in counseling from Marywood University in 2004. Kristy was employed as a program manager at the Employment Opportunity Training Center (EOTC) in Scranton, a local nonprofit organization. She was a family and child counselor and a mobile therapist. Kristy also worked at the Waverly Country Club. Kristy was an accomplished motorcyclist and an avid runner, having completed several 5Ks, the Scranton Half Marathon, the Steamtown Marathon and the California International Marathon in Sacramento, Calif.

She liked to travel and attend concerts throughout the United States. Her favorite band was the Grateful Dead, having seen Jerry Garcia perform. Kristy was an animal lover and counted swimming with the dolphins as one of her favorite memories. Kristy was currently serving as a Mayfield borough councilperson.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Amy Rogers and her husband, Justin; nephews, Ryder Clark and Cyler Cloud Rogers, Jermyn; paternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Ryczak; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Stanley and Tessie Bilski.

The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn, with Mass of Christian Burial in 10 from Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Jermyn, celebrated by the Rev Shane L. Kirby, pastor.

Family and friends may visit 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to EOTC, 431 N. Seventh Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
