Lena Mariani Monarchi, 82, a lifelong Jessup resident, died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was the wife of Peter "Barrels" Monarchi, who died Dec. 31, 2009.

Born in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Amedeo and Giuseppa Fanucci Mariani and was raised by the late Catherine Bertinelli Mariani. A graduate of Jessup High School, she was employed in her earlier years in the garment industry. Before her retirement, she co-owned and operated Pietro's Restaurant, a family business in Jessup. She was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, Queen of Angels Parish, Jessup.
Lena had many passions in life, but her husband, children and family were her life.
Lena's family would like to thank her loving and devoted sister, Joyce York, and sister-in-law, Rose Mariani; and all the wonderful staff at the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center, especially the C-2 wing, and the staff in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.
Surviving are a son, Peter A. Monarchi Jr. and wife, Trina, Peckville; a daughter, Joselle Monarchi and partner, June Bonacich, San Francisco; a brother, Mario Mariani and wife, Jeanette, Peckville; a sister, Joyce York and husband, Dominick, Peckville; a sister-in-law, Rose Mariani, Peckville; an aunt, Lucia Bertinelli, Jessup; nieces, nephews, cousins and several relatives in Italy.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Louis J. Mariani Sr.; a step-grandson, Jason Corazzi; and an uncle Elio Bertinelli.
The funeral will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Queen of Angels Parish at St. Michael's Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Peter Monarchi Sr. Memorial Fund to benefit the Jessup Youth Baseball/Softball, c/o PNC Bank, 533 Main St., Peckville, PA 18452.
