Lizbeth A. Seland, 61 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, following a lengthy illness at her mother's home in Hawley, where she was being cared for.

Born on January 20, 1951, in Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of Ruth E. Kull Seland of Hawley and the late William R. Seland Sr., who died Dec. 17, 2002. She was a graduate of Pompton Lake High School and later attended Tom Brook College for Women for two years. She received a bachelor's degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey. In 1974 she moved to Wayne County and became the first woman Probation Officer in the county. She later became the Director of Domestic Relations for Wayne County before retiring.
Lizbeth was very devoted to her job and was well known for her great smile. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
Also surviving are her brother, William R. Seland Jr. of Hawley; and her faithful and loved cat, Charlotte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
