Marguerite Powell Obituary

Marguerite L. Powell, 95, of Taylor, died Monday at home. Her husband, Charles J. Powell, died in 1950.

Born in Taylor, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Hood Llewlyn, Marguerite was a teacher in Taylor and Riverside school districts for 47 years. When she started teaching, she worked in two-room schoolhouses and was in charge of stoking the coal stove. She graduated from Taylor High School and Mansfield State Normal School. She was a Sunday school teacher and pianist for the United Baptist Church for many years and was also a deaconess at the church. For the last 14 years, she had been a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Clarks Summit. She was a member of the PSERS, Martha Washington Chapter 3, OES, the Heritage ABF and, as a young woman, she appeared in many eisteddfods and won prizes for her eloquent speaking.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and was a strong woman who was widowed at age 37. She had a generous heart and was always there for anyone who needed her. She always believed that saying the words "I love you" and "God bless you" to all whose lives she touched was extremely important. Those phrases were precious to her.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynne P. Renaldi and husband, Joseph; and her darling grandson, Joseph, all of Taylor.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Llewlyn.

The funeral service will be Saturday in Heritage Baptist Church, Vernard Road, Clarks Summit, by the Rev. David Culver, pastor. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marguerite L. Powell Teacher Education Memorial Fund, c/o Lynne P. Renaldi at the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, 18517.

Lynne Beth, I remember your mom fondly as being gracious and kind even when we brought home the stray kittens, crossed between the attics and held club meetings. My sympathy to you and your family, Kathy (Merritt) Niemiec
