Marion C. Schmitt, 85, of Clifford Twp., died Wednesday evening at Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center, Carbondale. She was the wife of Selwyn C. Schmitt, who died on Sept. 5, 1989.

Born April 11, 1927, in Lenoxville, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lena Severance Roberts. She was a member of the Elkdale Baptist Church of West Clifford and served as its former treasurer. She was involved with many of the church's events and programs including its Christian home schooling program. She was also proud of the fact that she personally home schooled her pastor's children. She assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm while also running the household and raising her children.

She was an avid gardener and loved growing flowers. She enjoyed bird watching and took great pleasure in seeing them visit her bird feeders.

She is survived by one son, Gary Schmitt of Clifford Twp.; one daughter, Evelyn Lacroix and husband, Randy, of Clifford Twp.; one sister, Virginia Miller of Lakewood, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Hinkley and Jean Anthony; and three brothers, Raymond, Arthur "Red" and Emery Roberts.

The funeral will be Saturday at noon from the Elkdale Baptist Church of West Clifford, 45 Route 2014, Clifford Twp., with the Rev. Frank Bissol, pastor, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call Saturday from 10 to noon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Elkdale Baptist Church, 45 Route 2014, Clifford Twp., PA 18470.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford.
