Mary A. "Mishka" Mackrell, 85, of Dickson City, died Friday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after being stricken ill at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Mackrell, on Nov. 15, 1987.

Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Kostek and Helen Evanitsky Rafalo. She was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, and a former member of its Christian Mothers Society. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School and Dickson City High School and was a homemaker.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who never missed Mass. She enjoyed playing bingo every Monday at St. Mary's, doing crossword puzzles and cooking for her family. She never forgot anyone's birthday and she loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Surviving are eight daughters, Sharon Wood and husband, Francis; Mary Beth Kastawa and husband, Ronnie; Donna Canjar and husband, John; Linda McCormick and husband, Glenn; Paula Valentini, Ann Alaimo and husband, Richard; Helen Taylor and husband, Robert; and Patricia Telep and husband, Boris; five sons, James Mackrell, Thomas Mackrell, Richard Mackrell and wife, Sharon; Robert Mackrell and wife, Sandy; and John Mackrell and wife, Patricia; grandchildren, Richard, Stacey, Paul, Brian, Stephanie, Jaclyn, John, Robert, David, Alyece, Shawn, Rebecca, C.J., Jill, Lisa, Angela, Courtney, Amanda, Zachary, James and Jacob; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three infant children; a grandson, Thomas; a son-in-law, Robert Valentini; two sisters, Anne Rafalo and Josephine Chmil; and two brothers, Joseph Rafalo and John Navroski.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Visitation Church. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
