Mary Blewitt Kelly, 78, of Arlington, Va., and formerly of Scranton, died Thursday at Capital Caring Hospice Center, Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Donald Kelly, in 1986.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Bertram J. and Mary Moffitt Blewitt, Mary received her B.S. and M.S. from Marywood University. Before retirement, she began her teaching career in Long Island, N.Y., moved on to the Newark, N.J., school district and ended her career in the Scranton School District at West Scranton High School.

She was a former member of the American Dietetic Association, Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and the Scranton Century Club, where she frequently participated in several bridge clubs.

Surviving are three daughters and their families, Mary Beth Kelly and husband, Nielu Patel, Boulder, Colo.; Annie McCoy and husband, Judd McCoy, Arlington, their daughters, Kelly and Jodie McCoy; and Margo Brokken and husband, Jean Pierre Brokken, Media, and their children, Katie and Jonathan Brokken; a sister, Terry Loftus, Dover, N.J.; many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bertram J. Blewitt; and five sisters, Barbara Dougherty, Louise Coyne, Bernadette Gilmartin, Pauline Kearney and Elizabeth "Betty" Caputo.

The funeral will be Monday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
