Mary Watral Polk, 98, a resident of Green Ridge Health Care Center, and formerly of Dickson City and Moosic, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. Mary was the widow of her beloved husband, John, who passed in 1970.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Kachur Watral, and she was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton. Before age took effect on Mary she was very active within the church community, making pierogi, quilting, working picnics and bingo. She was also a past member of St. Elizabeth's Guild at St. John Byzantine Church.

Before retirement Mary was a seamstress in the garment industry. Her passion was to travel and was often seen boarding a bus with her friends to just about anywhere.

Mary was a loving, caring mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, who will be missed deeply.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Green Ridge Health Care Center for their devotion and compassion shown to Mary during her stay there.

Surviving is a son, Gregory Polk and wife, Joanne; granddaughter, Sarah Marie Polk; and grandson, Christopher Polk, all of Dickson City; and many extended relatives and friends who will mourn her passing.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor Kurash, Anna Sperada, Margaret Grumauskas and Helen Rabiega; and brothers, John and Nicholas Watral.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Liturgy at 10:30 in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 310 Mifflin Ave., Scranton. Interment, St. Mary's Greek Catholic Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. Parastas will be Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Mary's wish was that memorial donations be made to Chris' Kidney Connection, 801 Laurel Creek Drive, Dickson City, PA 18519. This fund was set up to assist Mary's grandson with expenses for a kidney transplant scheduled for January.
