Michael J. Coyne, 56, of Scranton, died Friday at home. His wife is the former Catherine M. Rempe Coyne. The couple celebrated 20 years of marriage on Aug. 15.

Born in Scranton, son of John R. Coyne, Scranton, and the late Helen McNerney Coyne he was a member of St. Ann's Basilica, was educated in Scranton public schools, and was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1974; and Penn State University. Before his illness, he was employed as a case worker, working for the United Cerebral Palsey Association for 31 years. He was a member of the Hampton Social Club, the Irish Cultural Society, and the Irish Men's Association.

He enjoyed gardening, painting homes and traveling. "He was the best"; he was a loving and devoted husband, a terrific father, son, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed

Also surviving are one daughter, Marion Coyne; one son Michael J. Coyne Jr., both at home; three sisters, Sister Mary Ellen Coyne, I.H.M.; Joanne Hill and husband, Robert; and Linda Marcks and husband, Brian, all of Scranton; nine brothers, John R. Coyne Jr. and wife, Ellen, Johnson City, N.Y.; Patrick Coyne and wife, Stephanie, Clarks Summit; James Coyne and wife, Kathleen, Scranton; Robert Coyne, Auburn, Calif.; Gerald Coyne and wife, Maria Terese Curmaci, Scranton; Brian Coyne and wife, Joanne, Taylor; Joseph Coyne and fiancé, Paula Booth, Throop; Thomas Coyne, Scranton; and Paul Coyne and wife, Laurie Huff, East Stroudsburg; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 8 p.m.
