Michael J. Moskwa, 57, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday at Moses Taylor Hospital. His wife of 34 years is the former Mary Ryan Moskwa.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Jean Richards Moskwa. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was a retired employee of Lackawanna County.

He was an avid fisherman, earning the nickname "Muskie Mike." He enjoyed sports and didn't like the Boston Red Sox. He was MVP in 1986 in the American Softball Association Class A 10-man modified national softball tournament. He enjoyed watching his children play sports. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be deeply missed.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Prudente and husband, Matthew, Bethlehem; four sons, Michael Jr. and wife, Therese, Dunmore; Timothy and John Ryan, Scranton; and Christopher and wife, Lauren, Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Charles and Christian, Philadelphia; four brothers, John and wife, Donna, Taylor; David, Charles and Steven, all of Scranton; a sister, Janet Moskwa; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley and Phyliss Snarski Kupiec.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 10 in Sacred Hearts Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Honor guard will be provided by Lackawanna County Prison.

Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
