Michael P. Gallagher, 57, of Carbondale, died Sunday at VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He was the husband of Rita Collins Gallagher. They were married for 27 years.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., on Dec. 13, 1955, son of the late Hugh and Rita Doran Gallagher, he was a graduate of Raritan High School, Hazlet, N.J. He served in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Puget Sound. He retired from the New Jersey Department of Corrections, where he was a lieutenant.
Mike was a gentle, kind and loving man who always put his family first.
Also surviving are two sons, Jason Collins, Brick, N.J.; and John Gallagher, West Hartford, Conn.; a daughter, Krystal Gallagher, Carbondale; a sister, Jeannie Donnelly and her husband, Tom, Hazlet; a brother, James Gallagher and his wife, Susan, St. Louis, Mo.; two granddaughters, Corina and Cecilia Collins; and nieces, Megan and Emily Gallagher, and Shannon and Jacqui Donnelly.
Funeral services will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald, with Deacon Edward Kelly officiating.
Friends may call Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.
