Sister Moira Murray, I.H.M., (formerly known as Sister Mary Owen) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and given the name Mary Anna Patricia. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanore Elmore Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 14, 1948 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1951, and her final profession of vows on Aug. 2, 1954.

Sister Moira served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Agnes Elementary School in Lock Haven, Pa., from 1951 to 1953; St. John's Elementary School in Scranton, Pa., from 1953 to 1954; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, N.Y., from 1954 to 1956 and 1966 to 1975; St. Rita Elementary School Baltimore, Md., from 1956 to 1963; St. John's Elementary School in Pittston, Pa., from 1963 to 1966; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1975 to 1977; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, RI, from 1977 to 1984; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, N.Y., from 1984 to 1986; Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Holly, N.J., from 1986 to 1993; and Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, Pa., in 1993.

She served on the office staff at St. Patrick's Elementary School in Scranton, Pa., from 1993 to 2001 and at St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, Pa., from 2001 to 2005. From 2005 until the time of her death, Sister Moira was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Seamus, CSSp; a sister, Kathleen; and an aunt, Sister M. Ann Patricia Elmore, I.H.M.

She is survived by two sisters, Eileen Ward and Ann, both of Belfast, Northern Ireland; and two cousins, Aileen McKenna of Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Pauline Marmion of Buffalo, N.Y.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Ave., in Scranton. Interment will follow Mass on Wednesday at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.

Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence today, Nov. 26, between 3 and 5:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m.
