Peter P. Calabro Sr., 87, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday morning at Abington Manor Nursing Facility, Clarks Summit. He was the husband of Patricia Cianflone Calabro. The couple has been married for 43 years.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Carmen and Mary Creo Calabro, he was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School and attended Rutgers University. He was a proud Navy and Army veteran serving in World War II. Before his retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.

Peter was also a member of the Abington Memorial VFV Post 7069 and served as past post commander. He was the past commander of the DAV, where he received a state award from the Pennsylvania Dept. of the DAV and inducted into the Chapels of Four Chaplains. The Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton honored him with an award for more than 2,000 hours of volunteer service.

Peter was a loving person who enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and doing volunteer work.

The family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor, Dr. Philbin, and neighbors and friends for their wonderful care and compassion during Pete's illness.

Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Calabro Trist and her husband, Mark, Reno, Nev.; and Mary Calabro Bailey and her husband, John, North Carolina; a son, Peter P. Calabro Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, Old Forge; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Amanda, Mackenzie, Adam, Louis and Peter III "PJ"; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Russomano Calabro; seven brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by the Rev. John M. Lapera, pastor. All those attending are asked to go directly to church. Interment with military honors, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
