Chief Master Sgt. Peter T. Buckley, Air Force Ret., died Sunday at his home in Rancho Cordova, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, Masako.

He was born in North Scranton, the son of the late Mary and Peter Buckley. Peter was educated in Scranton public schools and entered the Army in 1944. He served as an infantryman in World War II. He continued his military career in the Air Force until 1975, spanning 30 years of active duty for his country. Chief Master Sgt. Buckley served combat tours in Germany (WWII), Korea and Vietnam, earning various military decorations and awards. He was a member of the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488 in Lenox. Peter was a devout Catholic who attended early morning Mass every day, and served as an altar boy well into his 70s.

He is survived by a son, Patrick, California, and his family; and a sister, Ann Buckley Kearney of Scranton.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret, Molly and Deloris; and two brothers Thomas "Buck" and William, who died in Vietnam.

Funeral services with military honors and burial will be held in California.
