Richard Polacek, 86, of West Orange, N.J., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the home of his daughter in Vernon, N.J. Mr. Polacek was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Jean Balderson, of Olyphant, in 1994.

Mr. Polacek was born and raised in Peckville and moved to New Jersey at the age of 18. He was a self-employed machinist.
In his later years, he spent weekends in Olyphant and was an active member of the Northeast Social Dance Club. He enjoyed music, dancing and gardening.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Amato, Toms River, N.J.; children, Judy Miller, Vernon; Debbie Polacek, Roseland, N.J.; and Richard Polacek, Blairstown, N.J.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild; his best friend, companion and dance partner, Pauline Hallisky, Olyphant.
He was also predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Danny and a sister, Dorothy.
Funeral arrangements were private and entrusted to Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, N.J. A celebration of life will be held in New Jersey on Oct. 19; details to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Northeast Social Dance Club.
