Richard Smar, 66, of Old Forge, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife is Marilyn Abraham Smar. The couple celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on June 6.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Edward and Josephine Lavitsky Smar. A 1965 graduate of West Scranton High School, he was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the Coast Guard and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge. He worked as a dispatcher in the local trucking industry, and retired from Bolus Motor Freight Systems.

Rich was a loving husband, father, son and avid sportsman, enjoying all sports and particularly horse racing, the New York Giants and the Phillies. His wife, Marilyn, and daughter Michelle were the center of his life.

Also surviving are a daughter, Michelle Copeland, Philadelphia; several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Private services will be held by the Rev. Joseph Cipriano, pastor emeritus of Prince of Peace Parish. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
