Rose M. Thornton, 84, a lifelong Dunmore resident, died early Saturday at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Thornton, in 1994.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Trotta Telesco, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish. Rose enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, going to dinner, the movies and the casino, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are sons, James Thornton and wife, Cathy, Elmira, N.Y.; and Anthony Thornton and wife, Donna, Mountaintop; a daughter, Rosemary Thornton and husband, Gerard Randolph, Warren, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Mary Washinko, Exton; grandchildren, Joseph Washinko, Conshohocken; Alexis Mengel, Elmira, N.Y.; Dalton Bennett, Mountaintop; Hannah Thornton, Mountaintop; Amelia Randolph and William Randolph, both of Warren; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Colon, Elmira; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Washinko; a son, Joseph M. Washinko; sister, Lucy Telesco Serapiglia; and brothers, William, Patrick, Charles and Daniel Telesco.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunmore.
