Shirley J. Neishell, 78, of Clarks Summit, died Monday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Anthony L. Neishell, on April 3, 2009.

Born in Scranton on Oct. 18, 1934, daughter of the late Joseph and Fannie Owen Pilchesky, Shirley was educated in Scranton Technical High School before last working as a seamstress for Allied Services in Scranton. She enjoyed square dancing and the polka, playing shuffleboard and roller skating, and most recently her favorite pastime was playing the Mohegan Sun Casino's slot machines. A loving mother, sister and grandmother, Shirley was the glue that bound her family together. She will be forever missed by the many who loved her. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, West Scranton.
She is survived by her eight children: three sons, Anthony Neishell, Newton-Ransom; Michael Neishell and Kim, Pittston; and Steven Neishell and Allison, Clarks Summit; and five daughters, Cheryl Cohn and Bill, Memphis, Tenn.; Barbara Neishell, Clarks Summit; Terry Drake and John, Dickson City; Melissa Spatzer and Randy, Clarks Summit; and Laurie Hughes, Clarks Summit; her brother, Joseph Pilchesky, Scranton; her sisters, Millie Christie, and Penny Zigga and Edward, all of Scranton; 19 grandchildren, Kelly, LeAnne, Gene, Jennifer, Matt, Ryan, Gary, Justin, Jamie, Stefani, Scott, Ashley, Kevin, Brittany, Devan, Shannon, Eric, Dani and Aubrey; 11 great-grandchildren, Stacey, Marty, Tyler, Tucker, Kayla, Kaden, Matthew, Alexis, Liam, Kaci and Landon; many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Lou Sherpinskas and Betty Nardelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at noon in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Martin Boylan, Pastor. Interment, private.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 11:45 a.m. until Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 18411.
Her family would like to extend its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Michael Rogan, as well as the staff of Mountain View Care Center, especially Betty, Roseann and the entire Bella Bay wing, for the amazing care they took of Shirley.
