Susan J. Gallagher, 89, of Amos Towers, formerly of South Scranton, died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her first husband, Eugene Kanavey, preceded her in death in 1951 at age 31, followed by her second husband of 53 years, John J. Gallagher, who died in August 2007.

Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late James and Concetta Picone Tremont and was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in South Scranton. A Navy veteran of World War II with rank of seaman first class, prior to retirement she was employed as a ticket agent for Martz Trailways and was a member of the White Transit Union. She also volunteered at Mercy Hospital.

Susie was a truly loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who warmly welcomed everyone and greeted them in her kind and generous way. She was a people person who was deeply involved in the social activities at Amos Towers. Her greatest love was for the times she shared with family through the years. Susie will always be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie Maloney and husband, James, Moosic; Jeanne Rossi and husband, Joseph, Scranton; and Lynne Snyder and husband, Russ, Allentown; three sisters, Rose Peakler, Dunmore; Vi Yashinski and husband, Chester, Lansdale; and Delores Sarafinko and husband, Robert, Moosic; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Joseph Tremont and Michael Tremont.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., South Scranton, celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, PA 18505. The family requests that those attending the funeral Thursday please proceed directly to the church.
