Theresa J. Nagy, 97, passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 26, 2013, at VNA Hospice GCMC.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 29, 1915, in East Benton, Pa., she was one of eight children. Her parents, Martin Rocz and Ethel Szali immigrated to this country from Hungary in the late 1800s. A lifelong Scranton resident, she recently resided at Scranton Health Care Center, where she received warm and loving care.
She had many nieces and nephews that also took great care of her; niece, Kathy Sheard, with whom she played her favorite games for hours; nephew, Richard Shobroski and his wife, Debra, with whom she resided; Dawn and Jason Bauman; Steve and Ron Vidal; and Mary Beth and Ned Posluzny.
Theresa was preceded in death by her husband of 70 happy years, Alex F. Nagy Jr.; also three sisters, Helen Hoffman, Grace Regenye and Veronica "Sarah" Shabroski; and five brothers, John, Joseph, Martin, Anthony "Gabby" Rocz; and Stephen "Nick" Rocz.
She loved her winters in Florida with her sister, Helen, and her niece, Gretchen Dudash and husband, Dick, and children. Most recently she resided part of the year with her niece, Barbara Shobroski Shoetes, Melbourne, Fla. Until its closing, she was a lifetime member of St. Stephen's Hungarian Church and very active in church organizations and functions. To everyone that met her, she became their "Aunt Theresa" because of her warm and friendly welcome.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, at Mary, Mother of God Parish, William Street, North Scranton.
