Theresa Macuga of Duryea died Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital. Her husband, Edwin J. Macuga, died March 8, 1999.

Born in Duryea on Feb. 2, 1932, daughter of the late Martin and Anna Pavlisko Dunay, she was a graduate of Duryea High School. She was formerly employed in the area garment industry and retired from Lady Carol, Duryea.
She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea, and its Christian Women's Society, a member of the ILGWU, the RSVP Volunteer Program of the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne County and the RSVP pen pal program for Lackawanna County. She was an active member of the Pittston Senior Center, where she loved spending time serving meals to others.
She was a loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend.
A caregiver to many over her life, she will be missed by all who have touched her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Diane Pliska and husband, Robert, Duryea, with whom she resided; and Cynthia Haduck, Duryea; a son, Edwin Macuga and wife, Pat, Vernon; grandchildren, Robert Pliska and wife, Megan, Olyphant; John Pliska, Duryea; Laura Shovlin and husband, Chris, Duryea; Jheralyn Macuga, Falls; and Hayley Macuga, Pittston; great-grandchildren, Miyah, Robby, Lexi, Bella, Madelyn, Avery, Emily, Christopher and Colton; sisters, Pauline Vitek, Duryea; Verna Reese, Duryea; Helen Champi and husband, Richard, Duryea; Ruth Pernot and husband, Bernard, Duryea; Irene Kosik and her husband, Michael, Dupont; and Ann Breig and husband, Edwin, Old Forge; brothers, Martin (Frankie) Dunay and wife, Irene, Duryea; Paul Dunay and wife, Anna Mae, Shelton, Conn.; and Joseph Dunay and wife, Bernadine, Enola; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Michael Dunay.
A special thank you to her niece, Dr. Darlene Dunay, for her care and understanding.
The funeral will be Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Duryea.
A viewing will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.
