Richard R. Farkaly, 75, of Carlsbad, Calif., died Sunday, Sept. 23, in California. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, the former Jessica Maio.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Peter and Margaret Farkaly and was a 1954 graduate of West Scranton High School. He resided in Carlsbad since 1977. He proudly served in the Navy as an electrician on board the USS Plymouth Rock. Before retiring, Richard owned several successful businesses on the East and West coasts including, the Grand Deli and Carlsbad Bakery Co.
After retiring, his hobbies included photography and gardening. He also enjoyed returning to Scranton to attend many of his high school reunions. Richard will be remembered by his friends and family for his sense of humor and his good heart.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kim Mikhael and husband, Simon; Lisa Farkaly and Judi Stapleton, all of California; three grandchildren, Zayne and Zandra Mikhael; and Lucas Stapleton; a sister, Beverly Thomas and husband, Bill, of Scranton; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maryann and Jack Theis of California; a niece, Susan Aulisio; and nephew, Jeffrey Thomas of Scranton; many cousins and friends in the Scranton area.
Interment, Miramar National Cemetery in California.
