Martha A. Poniatowski, 97, formerly of West Scranton, died Monday in Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center, Taylor. Her husband, Julian Poniatowski, died Nov. 23, 1984.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Martha Dobriesielski Wolski. Educated in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School, she was a seamstress, having retired from Irene D Fashions. She was a lifelong member and oldest parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church and a member of Sloan Seniors and the ILGWU.
Martha's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the compassionate care given to Martha by the nurses and staff of the third floor of Riverside Nursing and Rehab and to the staff of Hospice Traditional Care.
She is survived by two sons, Henry Poniatowski and wife, Karen, Scranton; and Raymond Poniatowski and wife, Donna, Landenburg; five grandchildren, Cheryl Burnside and husband, William, Scranton; Karen Ann Sallavanti and husband, Anthony, Clarks Summit; J. Henry Poniatowski and wife, Stacie, Scranton; Kristen Poniatowski, Delaware; and Jason Poniatowski, Delaware; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Burnside, Anthony Julian Sallavanti and Julian Henry Poniatowski.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene and Hattie; and three brothers, Chester, Edward and Raymond.
The funeral will be Thursday, leaving the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home, 254-268 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, at 11:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at noon in SS. Peter and Paul Church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Taylor.
Viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m.
