Dr. Donald Joseph Golden, Ed.D., 61, of Moscow, died Sunday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was the husband of the former Sharon Rankosky. The couple was married for 21 years.

Born in Scranton, son of the late John and Mary Tomillo Golden, Donald graduated from Scranton High School, earned his bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University, his master's degree from Bloomsburg University and his doctorate degree from Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He previously worked at Lackawanna Trail and Pleasant Valley school districts. He most recently served as director of special education for the Montrose Area School District for the past 12 years. Donald loved his job working with all children to meet their needs, and fought tirelessly for the rights of special and handicapped children.
Donald was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Also surviving are two sons, Seth, Scranton; and Brandon, Moscow; two sisters, Sharon M. Golden, Scranton; and Janice Masters and husband, William, Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home, 3 First St., Spring Brook Twp., with the Rev. Errol Morgan of Parker Hill Community Church officiating. Interment will be private.
