Sam Nudelman, Scranton, died Wednesday at the Jewish Home. He and his wife, the former Shirley Piel, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on June 24.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Jacob and Esther Malka Witkowski Nudelman, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and served in the Army during World War II. Before retirement, he was employed as a buyer at Oppenheim's Scranton Dry Goods Store. He was a member of the Beth Shalom Congregation, the Jewish War Veterans and the Jewish Community Center Senior Adult Club.

Sam was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was gentle and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are a son, Irving, West Chester; two daughters, Sheila Abdo and husband, Larry, Scranton; and Susan Kamerling and husband, Joseph, Haddonfield, N.J.; three grandchildren, Dana, Justin and Noah Kamerling; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Rebecca Nudelman, Sylvia Gildar and Libby Mendelsohn; and brothers, Irving, who died in action during World War II, and Reuben.

The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Dovid Saks. Interment, Dalton Jewish Cemetery.

Shiva will be observed at Webster Towers, 500 N. Webster Ave., Apt. 406, Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday through Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Service, 615 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, 18510; Beth Shalom Congregation, 1025 Vine St., Scranton, 18510; the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., 1101 Vine St., Scranton, 18510; or to the donor's favorite charity.
