Joan M. Bidwell, 71, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Thursday morning at St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst Twp. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, Ronald Robert Bidwell, on Feb. 7, 1992.

Born Feb. 11, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Beck, Joan was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Before raising her family, she worked as a seamstress for Mayflower Manufacturing. A longtime member of St. Patrick's Church, she also served as past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Ladies Auxiliary. A talented seamstress, aside from enjoying sewing, she loved watching the polkas and Wheel of Fortune. Dear to many, she will always be missed.
She is survived by her children, a son, Ronald Bidwell and wife, Nicole, Dunmore; and daughters, Susan Bidwell, Scranton; and Laura Fowler and husband, Robert, Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; siblings: brothers, Joseph Beck and wife, Elaine, Scranton; and Gene Beck and wife, Rose, Las Vegas; and a sister, Helen Green, Scranton; five grandchildren, Ashley, Kaila, Mackenzie, Kierstin and Kelsie; many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Roselyn Dubranski; and a sister, Roselyn Beck.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., West Scranton, with a blessing service at 10 in Cathedral Cemetery Chapel with interment to follow.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
