Francis "Windy" Carden, Carbondale, died Thursday, April 4, at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Theresa Talerico Carden, in 1989.

Born in Carbondale on Dec. 24, 1929, son of the late Frank and Beatrice Fortuner Carden, he graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and attended Cornell University. Before retirement, he was manager of Sodus Bay Yacht Club, Sodus Bay, N.Y.

Windy was known for his sense of humor and culinary skills. He lived his life to the fullest. He was a member of Elkview Country Club, Elks Club, Moxie Club and American Legion.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, traveling, cooking and sailing. He shot a hole-in-one at Elkview Country Club and rode horseback in the Cowboy Capital Trail Ride, Bandera, Texas. Windy was an avid N.Y. Yankees and Notre Dame fan.

Windy's family would like to thank the excellent care he received from VNA Hospice. They became his friends and made it possible for him to spend his last six weeks at home with his family.

He is survived by five sisters, Rose and husband, Joe Flanagan, Penfield, N.Y.; Betty Noelte, Tequesta, Florida; Pat and husband, Skip Carr, San Antonio, Texas; Elsabet and husband, Bernie Lane, Warwick, R.I.; and Frankee Perry, Carbondale; nine nephews, David Pryce, Randy Carr, Michael Flanagan, Mark Perry, Bernie Lane, Brian Lane, Eric Perry, Brad Lane and Chase Ryan; eight nieces, Sandy Popp, Debbie Reinhardt, Debby Ryan (Disney star of Jessie), Britney Lane, Erica Reinhardt, Hannah Lane, Amanda Reinhardt and Ellie Rose Flanagan; and a special friend, Cindy Harvey, Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by two nephews, Robert Flanagan and Jon Pryce.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 10, from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home, 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, at 9:30 a.m.

Viewing will be Tuesday, April 9, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 301 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447.
