Helen Slagan Lyons of Taylor, formerly of West Scranton, died Friday afternoon at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband, Richard J. Lyons Sr., died April 8, 1988.

Born and educated in Scranton, daughter of the late Alexander and Anna Kushner Slagan, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was known to be a quiet and strong, independent woman until her illness. Her life was centered around her family. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, going to the casino, watching game shows and the Pennsylvania Polka.
Surviving are two sons, Richard and wife, Judy, Plano, Texas; and Dennis, Scranton; a daughter, Sheila Dunkailo and husband, Richard, with whom she resided; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Manglaviti and husband, Peter, Long Island, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.
A blessing service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home., 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton. Interment will be in the Cathedral Cemetery.
