Thomas S. Polkowski, 77, of Hillcrest, N.Y., died Thursday after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elaine.

Born July 21, 1935, in Dickson City, he was the son of the late John and Salomea Polkowski. Tom retired from Link Simulation after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Hillcrest community, serving in the Hillcrest Community Association and St. Catherine of Siena Church Holy Name Society. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion, and he supported Little League and Boy Scout Troop 199.
Tom asked that we thank UHS Oncology, especially Dr. Khan, and Lourdes Hospice, for helping him throughout his illness.
Surviving are his sons and their wives, John V. and Nancy Polkowski and Victor and Janet Polkowski; two grandchildren, Thomas and John; a great-grandchild, Christian; sisters, Nettie, Rose, Mary and Cherie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding him in death were brothers, John and Joe, and sisters, Bernice, Celia, Johanna and Marci.
A funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Church, Port Dickinson. Burial will follow in Chenango Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the William R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, N.Y.
