Jack Evancavich, 59, of Peckville, died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carol Newton, on Nov. 27, 2011.

Born in Peckville, son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Mihalisko Evancavich, he was a graduate of Valley View High School and a former member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Jessup. He was a member of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was employed as a truck driver for McLane Trucking in Jessup.

Affectionately known as "PopPop," he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Cole, Athena and Alexa Wendolowski.

He is survived by a son, Jonathan, Arizona; a daughter, Nicole Wendolowski and husband, Alex, Peckville; brothers, Andrew "Junior," Wilkes-Barre; and Joseph, Nicholson; and sisters, Eleanor Lidman, Connecticut; Betty Krzan, Montdale; and Andrea Noll, Georgia.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aria Wendolowski; and brothers, Mike and Jimmy Evancavich.
