Daniel Cuccherini, 78, of Gouldsboro, Pa., died peacefully early Tuesday morning at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born in Gouldsboro and spent most of his life there. He was the son of the late Daniel N. and Mary Ann Daggers Cuccherini. Dan attended Scranton Technical High School, where he met the love of his life, Lorraine Emiliani. They graduated in 1953. Lorraine & Dan would have been married 59 years in January 2014.

Dan served proudly as a Fairfax County, Va. police officer. He retired in 1967 and returned to Gouldsboro. Dan served as chairman of the Lehigh Twp. supervisors for over 25 years until he retired in 2006.

Dan enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid supporter and a passionate New York Yankees fan, and anything else Lorraine wanted to watch on TV. He was a member of the American Legion Wall Sebring Post and is the current Lehigh Twp. Democratic Committee man.

Lover of the great outdoors, Dan spent time fishing, hunting and playing horseshoes as a 25-year member of the Newfoundland Horseshoe League. Dan really enjoyed riding his infamous John Deere tractor. He enjoyed watching the deer, bears and other wildlife in his backyard while spending time with his faithful companion, Morris. He will forever be remembered by his countless stories, life lessons and skilled use of duct tape. Dan lived for his family and will be greatly missed by all.

He was a father to three children, Daniel, Gouldsboro; Mary McLane and husband, Tom of Myrtle Beach; Lisa Dapkins and husband, Doug, of Gouldsboro. He was "Guppy" to seven grandchildren, Bettina Guy, Christina Wynn, Daniel Walter Cuccherini, Camille Dapkins, Victoria Dapkins, Domenick Cuccherini and Mary Ann Cuccherini. Dan was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Wynn, Mc­­Cartney Wynn, Annalese Guy and Grayson Guy. He also considered Robert Scott of Gouldsboro as a second son and member of his family.

His quick wit and warm smile was shared by his three siblings, Carmella Cuccherini, Dale City, Va.; Raymond "Butch" Cuccherini, Woodbridge, Va. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Cuccherini of Elkton, Va. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A Blessing Service will be Saturday at 12 noon in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 3 First Street, Spring Brook Twp., PA 18444, with the Rev. Robert Simon, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow. The American Legion Post 274, Gouldsboro, will conduct military honors after the service.

A viewing will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. The Fairfax County Police Department Honor Guard will conduct services during the visitation.
