Robert J. Miller Bean, 57, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died of lymphoma Sunday night in the Linwood Nursing Center.

He was born in Scranton, the son of Carlton J. Bean, Wintergarden, Fla.; and the late Mary Lois Baer Bean. He was a lifelong member of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church and graduated from Scranton Central High School, class of 1974. He was a member of the NRA and the Doberman Pinscher Club of America. From the ages of 14 to 20, he had been employed by the BPOE (Elks) Lodge 123 and the Glider Diner. He worked in his family business since he was young; he was the fifth generation to own and operate the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc. He was president and co-owner along with his wife, the former Valerie M. Groth.
Also surviving are two sisters, Debra Bean, Throop; and Barbara Emick and her husband, Stephen, Whitehall; two brothers, Edward Bean and his wife, Sue, Wintergarden, Fla.; and Michael Bean and his wife, Christine; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, on March 19, 1965.
Graveside services and interment will be Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in Dunmore Cemetery, with services by the Rev. Dr. Stuart Thomas Wilson, interim pastor of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. The family would like to invite you to a gathering following the services at 11:30 at the Waldorf Park, GAF, 13 Waldorf Lane, East Mountain section of Scranton.
