William F. Gaughan Jr., 74, of West Scranton, died Sunday evening at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. His beloved wife is Barbara J. Wynn Gaughan. They would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Feb. 1.

Born in Scranton on Dec. 31, 1939, son of the late William F. Sr. and Elizabeth Bakaysa Gaughan, he was a 1957 graduate of St. Ann's High School. He proudly served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Wasp. Before retirement, Bill worked for Metso Paper as an inspector. He was parishioner of St. Ann's Basilica and was a member of the Log Cabin Sportsman Club.
Throughout his life, Bill was an avid hunter and Notre Dame fan. His family was the center of his life, but he especially loved and adored his grandchildren. They will dearly miss him.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kimberly A. Walters and husband, Doug, Parrish, Fla.; a son-in-law, Tom Coleman, Scranton; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan and Sarah Walters and Hunter and Brianna Coleman; two brothers, James and Jack Gaughan and wife, Marie, all of Scranton; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kristine M. Coleman, on Feb. 21, 2012; and a brother, Thomas.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, with Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Ann's Basilica. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
