Ann Marie T. McHugh Miller, 73, Scranton, died Thursday in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice McHugh and stepmother, Betty, she met and married the love of her life, Allan L. Miller, with whom she spent a blessed 52 years until his death in 2010. They raised five children, who, along with her grandchildren, were with her every second of her illness.

Before retirement, Ann Marie was an 18-year employee of Kmart, Dickson City, where she met her best friend, Carole "Socks" Manziano.

She loved playing bingo and her constant companion dog, Cuddles. She was a proud supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Humane Society of Lackawanna County. She was so excited to be expecting her eighth great-grandchild in July, which she predicted to be a boy.

The family would like to thank the nurses at VNA Hospice for their care and compassion.

Also surviving are a son, Allan, with whom she resided and received loving care since losing her husband; four daughters, Sherry and husband, Allen Backus; Lori and husband, Merrill Rentrope; Diane Miller and Stacey Hill; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany and husband, Steve; Frank and wife, Elyse; Nicole and husband, Danny; Joshua, Amanda, Alicen, Alexa, Kelcey, Kyle and Jacob; seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Ian, Keegan, Cadin, Madison, Tristin and Evan, whom she cherished; a brother, Joseph and wife, Gloria; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Kati McHugh.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Bomberger-Lesko Funeral Home Inc., 1660 N. Main Ave. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call Saturday from 2 until service time.
