Joseph Pitts, 71, died Saturday evening at the Golden Living Center, after an illness.

Born June 17, 1942, in Scranton, son of the late Frank and Emma Pivornick Pitts, he was educated in Scranton schools and was a Navy veteran. Before his illness, he was an antique furniture refinisher.

Surviving are son, Mark Pitts; two daughters, Christine Tolan and Kelly Pitts, both of Scranton; a grandson, Joseph Tolan III; a sister, Gloria Pitts, Scranton; a brother, James Pitts, Simpson; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Pitts; and a brother, Ronald Pitts.

The funeral and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc.
