John "Jack" Huggler, 86, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Saturday morning under the care of Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his beloved wife, Ruth Burke Huggler, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Feb. 19.

Born on Nov. 2, 1927, son of the late Fred and Theresa Legg Huggler, Jack was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1946. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a corporal during the Korean War, earning the World War II Victory and Army of Occupation (Japan) medals. For more than 30 years before retirement, he served as a journeyman book binder for Haddon Craftsmen of Scranton. A longtime member of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, Old Forge, he served as church custodian following retirement.

Extremely active until his recent illness, Jack was a handyman considered a "Jack of all trades." Loved by many, he will be dearly missed by all of his dear family and friends.

He is also survived by daughters, Corrine Huggler, and Jackie Gleason and husband, Garrett Sr., all of Old Forge; a brother, Joseph Huggler and wife, Peggy, Bordentown, N.J.; two grandsons, Garrett Jr. and Brandon, both of Old Forge; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Gordon Huggler; brothers, George and Emil Huggler; and a sister, Jennie Ray.

His family would like to thank Dr. Edward Dzielak, Jack's physician, and Joan Powell, Jack's niece, for years of extraordinary help and compassionate care.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, by the Rev. Donald B. Perry. Interment with military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard, Milwaukee Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
