Rachel A. Leonard, Scranton, died Friday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She and her husband, Kenneth, celebrated their 39th anniversary in April.

Born in Jermyn, daughter of Ann Freshko Prokop, Archbald, and the late John Prokop, she graduated from Lakeland High School in 1972. Before her illness, she was a secretary at Moses Taylor Hospital and Northeast Eye. She was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church.

She was an avid bowler, who liked camping and fishing and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Abbie.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staffs at the hospital and hospice for their kindness and care at her time of need.

Also surviving are a daughter, Tracy and husband, Christopher Zaleski, Eynon; a son, Christopher Leonard, Scranton; granddaughter, Abbie Mae Zaleski; a sister, Michele Prokop; and her second mother, Betty Leonard, Scranton.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Court Street United Methodist Church, Scranton, by the Rev. Fred Snyder, pastor. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bomberger-Lesko Funeral Home Inc., 1660 N. Main Ave., Scranton.

The family will receive friends in the church hall after the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
