Mary E. Smith, 79, formerly of Allentown and Tamaqua, died Thursday at Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown. She was the wife of the Rev. Kenneth K. Smith. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June.

Born in Tamaqua, daughter of the late John G. and Rachel L. (Harris) Johnson, Mary was a member of Christ Methodist Church, Allentown. She spent 50 years serving the children of the Lehigh Valley, teaching at vacation Bible school, the Good News Club and Sunday school.
Also surviving are a son, Kenneth K. Smith Jr. and wife, Jennifer, Wescosville; daughters, Linda S. and husband, the Rev. Tim Young, Emmaus; Jane A. and husband, Timothy J. Barr, Allentown; and Ginny L. and husband, Daniel A. Hertzog, Wescosville; a brother, the Rev. James Johnson and wife, Carol, Jermyn; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, 330 Schantz Road, Allentown. Interment, Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Arrangements by the Stephens Funeral Home Inc., 1335 W. Linden St., Allentown.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 at the church.
