Doris H. Clifford, 88, of Dunmore, died Saturday. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert J. Clifford, on Dec. 29, 2005.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Alexander and Pauline Flesher Hudak, she was a graduate of Marywood Seminary and Powell School of Business. Doris was a devout Catholic devoted to her family, particularly her husband and her children, to whom she was available at any time, day or night, to lend an ear and provide loving, yet practical, counsel. She also was "mom" to the Clifford family pets, including Priscilla, Tennessee (her favorite) and Perky. She especially enjoyed reading. One of her favorite books was Thomas Merton's spiritual classic, "The Seven-Storey Mountain." She could bring near-dead plants back to vibrant life, and her delicious roast beef and barbecue chicken will be much missed. Most importantly, she was dedicated to bearing the cross of Christ. She willingly accepted all that meant in both its challenges and joys throughout her life.
Surviving are four sons, Robert M. and wife, Mary Clifford, Morris Plains, N.J.; Patrick J. and wife, Mary Ann Clifford, Tyler, Texas; Mark J. Clifford, at home; and Paul A. Clifford and wife, Jenine Furry, Leetsdale; two daughters, Mary Clifford and husband, Richard Bosch, Highland Lakes, N.J.; and Anne Clifford, Worcester Twp.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn P. Waters.
The funeral will be Friday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
