John M. Strelecki of Olyphant died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Jill Ulrich. They would have celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary April 12.

Born in Scranton, son of Robert Weikel Sr., Scranton, and the late Roseann Nerges, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Before his illness, he was employed as a program manager for Keystone Resources.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a coach with the Olyphant Little League, where he volunteered a lot of his time, and was always willing to help. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, but the most important thing in his life was his family, especially his children. John was loved and will be missed by all, especially his wife and children.

John's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful doctors, especially Dr. Christian Adonizio, for all their expert care. The family would also like to say thank you to the wonderful nursing staff and hospital staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center, for all their wonderful care and support they provided.

Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Amanda Gawel; a son, Jonathan Strelecki, both at home; siblings, Stephen Strelecki and wife, Janet; Michele and husband, Thomas Joyce, all of Scranton; Rosemary Weikel, Tunkhannock; and Robert Weikel Jr., Scranton; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jule and John Ulrich; sister-in-law, Jacelyn Ulrich, all of Scranton; several nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew, Nathan.

The funeral will be Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m.
