Thomas Robert Maines, 58, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Helen Howell Abbott and Thomas Maines and stepson of the late Robert Abbott, he was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1973, and a member of the Court Street United Methodist Church. He was employed by Scranton Wilbert Vault Inc. for more than 30 years.
He was a loving, outgoing and good-hearted person. He was always there if someone needed help. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and NASCAR.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Maines, Taylor; three grandchildren, Brandon and Alivia Maines and Evan Fassett, all of Taylor; a sister, Helen Helbing and husband, Nelson, Dalton; two brothers, Robert Abbott and wife, Rose Ann, Taylor; John Abbott and wife, Sue, New Milford; uncle, Thomas Howell and wife, Audrey, Moosic; three aunts, Dora DiGregorio, Sally Kurtz and Betty Eisenhart, all of Scranton; nieces, nephews, cousins and his companion of 15 years, Judy Fontanella.
The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. at the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with services by the Rev. Fred Snyder, pastor of the Court Street United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
Friends may call Sunday from noon to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m.
