Charles S. Shoppel Sr., 67, of Port Griffith, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He and his wife, Evelyn Griglock Shoppel, the love of his life, celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on Sept. 25.

Born in Kingston, son of the late Stanley and Frances Dombroskus Shoppel, he was a graduate of Exeter High School, class of 1965. Charles was employed by A&A Auto Parts for more than 40 years. He was manager at its Green Ridge section of Scranton store and an assistant manager for its Exeter location. He was a lifetime member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Charles loved working on military equipment and all classic cars. He enjoyed going to the Carlisle and Hershey car shows. He was a former member of St. Casimir's Church, Pittston.

Charles loved his family and his friends. His memory will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Charles also had a love of nature, which included planting flowers, feeding birds and mowing his lawn. One of his favorite places to go was Banko's Seafood, Nanticoke.

He is also survived by sons, Charles Jr. and wife, Elisabeth, Pittston; and Stanley and companion, Kimberly Merithew, Jenkins Twp.; brother, Stanley and wife, Norma, Mechanicsburg; grandsons, Charles III and Anthony Shoppel; and his dog, Bubba.

A blessing service will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston, with the Rev. Brian J.W. Clarke officiating. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Exeter.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
