Eugene Edward Donovan, 23, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Monday afternoon in the Geisinger Community Medical Center Critical Care Unit from a Cerebral Brain Hemorrhage.

He was born in Scranton, the son of Jill Donovan Delappi, Scranton, and Edward Backus, Scranton, and stepson of Marc Delappi, Scranton, and Michele Backus, Scranton. A graduate of Scranton High School class of 2009, he was formerly employed by the Scranton School District.
The family would like to thank the Critical Care staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center for their care, kindness and compassion.
Surviving are his parents, Jill Donovan and her husband, Marc Delappi, Scranton; Edward Backus and his wife, Michele, Scranton; two half-sisters, Madison and Bryn Backus, Scranton; maternal grandparents, William and Judy Frable Donovan, Scranton; paternal grandfather, Michael Backus, Scranton; aunts and uncles, Holly Donovan, Michael, Patrick and William Backus, Mary Backus, Nora Dargatis; his girlfriend, Alyssa Marinucci; cousins.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Nora Jean Henehan Backus; an uncle, Eugene Backus.
The funeral will be Saturday with the Word of the Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Avenue. Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore. Those attending the Funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
