Jerry "Butch" "Sodey" Burns, 76, a lifelong Jessup resident, died Thursday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a short illness. He and his wife, Elizabeth A. Panulla Burns, were married for 52 years.

Born in Archbald, son of the late Thomas A. and Theresa Yanochik Burns, he graduated from Jessup High School in 1955, and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was a member of St. James Church, Queen of Angels Parish in Jessup, and a past member of the Liberty Hose Company 6 in Olyphant. He was employed by the Endicott Johnson Shoe Co., and later worked at Weston, both in Archbald. He then began his landscaping business, which he owned and operated for 32 years.
Jerry was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved Irish festivals and Irish music. He was a Civil War buff, who enjoyed visiting Gettysburg and many other battlefields.

Also surviving are his four sons, Jerry Burns and wife, Roseann, Jessup; Joseph Burns and wife, Theresa, Vandling; David Burns and wife, Diane, Chapman Lake; and Francis Burns and wife, Cindy, Killeen, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas "Sonny" Burns.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Michael's Church at Queen of Angels Parish, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
